Preparing for the new swimming season.

If you own a pool, you know how important it is to prepare it for the new swimming season. That means ensuring that every step to open your pool is carried out efficiently and effectively so that everything operates properly and safely.

While some pool owners may have the tools and desire to open their pools themselves, many make the mistake of rushing the process or skipping steps, resulting in costly damage to equipment and even the pool itself. That’s why it’s always a good idea to hire a pool professional to handle the pool-opening process.

Whether it’s an above-ground or in-ground pool, trained pool-care professionals such as the experts at Clean and Pools will perform all of the steps necessary to get your pool ready for the warm weather, including:

Cover removal and storage After a rough winter, your cover can be covered with debris and difficult to remove. Done incorrectly, it can be easily torn, debris is allowed to fall in, and the pool is ultimately damaged. The cover also needs to be prepared for summertime storage to prevent mold and mildew.

Reconnect pool equipment After raising the water level back up to proper height, equipment such as filter, pump, heater, and other water-conditioning gear needs to be reconnected and checked. Above-ground pools need the flexible plumbing lines and skimmer reconnected.

Switch plugs Winterizing plugs need to be removed from all equipment and lines and replaced with regular drain plugs once the antifreeze has been drained.

Restart pool system All subsystems including pump, filtration, and circulation systems need to be turned on and air bled from the system.

Pool chemistry tested and adjusted After a long winter, it’s important to ensure that your pool water is crystal clear and properly balanced. Clean and Clear pool experts will use a professional test kit to check alkalinity, pH, and calcium levels and adjust as necessary.

Final cleaning Once the water is adjusted, a final cleaning to remove any remaining debris is performed and the filtration system run to take care of any dirt, algae, and bacteria.

After a quick chemical shock to take care of remaining stubborn bacteria and contaminants, you’re ready to dive in!
